TORNADO ALLEY!

April 22, 2010

A Day of (near) Infamy!
While driving from Amarillo, Texas to Longmont, Colorado on Highway 287.... All seemed well on the western front.

OUT OF NOWHERE! NO WARNING! WE WERE WARNED!
Sirens blared.  Radio broadcasts were transmitted!  We were on a collision course with a potentially deadly, destructive Tornado!
BUT WAIT!!!
Warnings came in!  NOT ONE... NOT TWO... BUT SEVERAL Tornado's spawned off from a super cell of storms spinning between the Colorado planes, into Kansas, Texas panhandle and into Nebraska!

We heard reports of tornado touchdowns to the east, less than 10 miles distance!
We drove North on the 287 to have just come behind another downed tornado that had moved northward.
To our East and West we had Tornado's tearing up the earth in their path making their way to our location!

We drove thru the hail!  We drove thru the rain!
We saw spinning clouds, funnels nearing the ground!

WE MADE IT!
We had skirted past a ban of Tornadoes!
On April 22nd, 2010, we had a heroic tale to tell!

Break out the Blankets! It's Karaoke Night in Pendleton, Oregon!

Luck of the Irish!!!
Gold ending rainbows with four leaf clovers! Frolicking leprechauns on green hillsides...

Some of these things may come to mind when thinking of St. Patrick’s Day.

I have never been one to really celebrate this green festive occasion. (I would wear green of course!) Who really wants to get pinched?!

This year was different. This year was going to be a celebration! I was going to do what other seemingly normal people did.

This year I was in Pendleton, Oregon on business, stuck for the night at the Wild Horse Casino. This year I would wear my greenest shirt proudly! I would wear my large green stone necklace! I would celebrate amongst others!

My husband Jay and I went into the casino lounge bar and grill. They had specials of green beer, festive food and the regular hot, Hot, HOT wings. We were seated looking down at the large stage below. We had stumbled upon Karaoke night!

This was our first Karaoke night!
(Correction... I had been to a karaoke club previously, but it doesn't count. I was visiting a friend in Japan and the people didn't understand English!)

We had snacked some wings and downed some green brew.
Shortly their after we decided we would both get up on the large beautiful stage and belt out a tune!

We both scoured thru the almost biblical book of music to pick our selections.

James was called to the stage.

He sang the song VooDoo like there was no tomorrow!!
At first I was wondering how he would do. Others were magnificent that night; and there were some who... well, just plain stunk!
He was FABULOUS!!! I don't know where it came from! It was as if my husband’s vocal cords were replaced by a deep throated rock star!

A few more people sang, then I was called to the stage.

Do you have a favorite song? (Of course you do! Everyone does!)

I sang a song from one of my favorite artists. I sang Superman, from Our Lady Peace.

I knew the song by heart, however I don't know what happened......
The song I usually sing in the car, and know all the lyrics like I knew my own address seemed forgotten.
I still had a great time! I sang my heart out. I shook out all the lyrics, and my song was done.

You would think after that experience I would give up for the night.

Oh NO!!! Not me!!! Jay talked me into singing a duet with him!

We both got on stage and the music started.

We sang WHITE AND NERDY from Weird Al'! It was so Funny!! The lyrics were so fast! We tried to keep up. -tried- People were cheering! We had a blast!!!

We were given t-shirts from the DJ that night. I still am not sure if he gave them to us because we were great, entertaining, or he felt sorry for us.

Either way, we had a FABULOUS St. Patty's Day!

HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN?

Why is it a Minnesota hunter can find "bigfoot", but I can't find my keys???

If you think you are cold now.....

Remember when....

It snowed feet!

To clear the driveway you had to pile snow higher than your head?

Just remember how much FUN you had when you were a "kid"!

Do I have something on my face?

When families get together for a meal........
Some prefer take out.  Some prefer to stay home.

Parents call the shots at meal time. (or atleast we try)

But when you have children, some restaurant experiences become legendary.

I remember a time shortly after my son Marshall was born.

Every parent knows, there comes a point when suddenly you are the one who has the screaming or crying baby.  You are the table everyone else is staring at.  You are the one who is the recipient of comments of,"How Rude!" "How dare she come here  with a child and disrupt my meal!"

As he grew older we taught him how to behave in public.
He still pushes the line, but what self respecting kid doesn't.

I think the best moments are the ones unplanned.

Event:
My husband and I had been away on business.  My son Marshall had been staying at his grandmas.

We had talked with him on the phone.
"We will be there soon! I promise!" I said.
"Mom. What time? Can we go out to eat tonight?" Marshall asked.
"We should be there around 4:00.  Yeah, let's go out.  Where do you want to go?  Pizza? The Hub? Mexican?"
"MEXICAN!!" Marshall decided.

Later in the day we arrived to pick up Marshall.  He had his bag ready and jumped in the car.  We drove down the road into town and pulled into the mexican restaurant 'Don Pedros.  Soon we were inside sitting in a booth.

We ordered our drinks and our meals.   Marshall had ordered a mexican pizza would drink a non-alcoholic strawberry daiquiri with extra whip cream and two cherries.

Soon he was plopping the cherries in his mouth and slurping the daiquiri.

He was so happy to talk with the waiter.  He said hello to the neighboring family at a nearby table.  He even looked at the booth behind to recomend the strawberry daiquiri.

He was so excited that everyone was so friendly and happy he talked with them.

We laughed a bit too.

He enjoys being entertaining.  He is often silly.

(We snapped a couple pictures with our phone to remember the moment.)

A few hours later we arrived home.  That is when he realized why we had been giggling at dinner!

Car ride to pick up our son from his grandmas....$10.00 in gas....
Dinner at a local restaurant.....$38.00....
Pictures of your kids with whipcream on their nose.... PRICELESS!
